Feldman PT & Performance:  2023 Goals

JUSTIN

Wow! February is almost over!  We thought this would be the perfect time to talk about our goals for the year.  At the start of the year there is always so much pressure to set goals and resolutions for the year, for me that time is usually so busy that I can’t even think about tomorrow let alone the rest of the year.  So, personally, I really like looking at goals around this time.

2023 is a big year for Feldman PT & Performance, this marks our 10-year anniversary, and I always think it is fun to look back at how much has changed over those 10 years, I mean when I first opened I had an android phone, and a window computer, crazy times!  Oh yeah and no kids.

By the time this comes out our family will have hopefully grown by 1 four-legged friend, and I’m looking forward to all the puppy fun!  I can’t wait for him to be able to come to work and greet everyone at the office, although I know when that happens it is guaranteed that no one will pay attention to me.

For me this year my big goals are to continue to let the business grow and make sure to spend as much time as possible with the rapidly growing kids.  All of that while training for a ½ Ironman, Ironman, and probably a marathon and a ½ marathon as well.  I’m a little afraid if I slow down the kids might catch up.  Plus John and I are really looking forward to that full marathon Meg promised to run with us next year.

I do want to take this time to sincerely thank all of our patients and clients for their trust and support over the last 10 years, without them none of this would be possible.  I also want to thank John and Meg, when I started this 10 years ago, 2-3 days in I realized that my plan of being alone would never work, that in order to provide the high-quality service I wanted to I needed a strong team around me, that do that and so much more!

Alriiiight….some new personal and squad goals for 2023! And I have the luxury of contributing my portion last so I get to say a big WTF to Justin owning an android initially. And to Meg, I’d like to say that giving birth trumps ANY physical feat Justin or I could tackle this year. But you’re still running a race with us at some point.

2023 will be a fun year. I have to say that I’m going completely cliche and am most looking forward to my daughter getting old enough to “do fun stuff” so I can reap all the benefits of being a girl dad. I love the water so getting her in the pool this Summer is at the top of the to-do list and just spending more time with Vanessa, baby O, and Lincoln. House projects this year are to fence in the backyard and really get after that outdoor fun.

In addition, my other goals include enjoying another successful year of Tri training and racing with Team Feldman and we’re finally taking it international! You can catch us up in Canada for Ironman Mont Tremblant in August. I’ve also got a fun running project I’ve been working on that took a backseat to the growing family last year. Needless to say, I’m pretty excited for those finishing touches.

To round out my goals, I think I’d like to lace up my cleats again! Maybe after our big race, I can get back on the pitch in the Fall with some old friends. Emphasis on old now haha. And finally, Vanessa and I want to turn the volume up on those speakers and get back on the dance floor. It’s about time we found our way back into the ballroom for some salsa, but I think she’s going to vote for the rumba. Maybe we can compromise with the Argentine Tango ;). Whatever it is, we’re looking forward to it!

As we begin our 10th year in business I have to give a massive shoutout to Justin for this dream of his and for allowing me to be such a big part of it. Thank you to all of our patients and friends and of course our families. Thanks to Meg for her fresh ideas and discipline (because Justin and I desperately need it!).

But most of all I truly hope everyone has some goals for the year and is as excited for 2023 as I am. Let’s go Team FPT!

MEG

Hey everyone, Meg here! Although it is already February, I believe it’s never too late to talk about goals for the new year.  I don’t often make new year’s resolutions because I don’t like the idea that if you don’t achieve them in a certain time frame, you are a failure.  I prefer to look at the year ahead and try to set some more generalized short and long-term goals that are more focused on things that will help me live the type of life I want to live rather than specific goals that are more difficult to achieve.

This year brings a big change to my family dynamic as we are expecting our third baby in just a few weeks!  So, much of my life over the next few months will be spent adjusting to my new normal with three kids in the house. I’m hoping that because I’ve done the newborn thing twice now, I’ll be an expert this time around haha but I know that every baby is so different and you just never know.  I’m typically a pretty easygoing and calm person, and I hope that I can continue that way as we add another member to our family.

Unlike my colleagues, I don’t have any brilliant feats of endurance planned for this year.  I plan to spend the year listening to my body and doing what feels right in terms of returning to exercising.  Maybe someday John and Justin will be able to convince me to participate in a race of some sort (maybe a 5k? haha), but I don’t see that happening anytime soon (sorry guys!).

Ultimately, this year will be a bit of a transitional year for me.  I accept and welcome the challenges and changes ahead, but I also hope to maintain my identity outside of being a mom as well.  Remember, parents are people as well!  And as much as I love my kids, I also love doing things that make me feel like a real person.  That said, I’ve set some goals to help me prioritize myself after the baby comes. I love to read, exercise, play soccer and spend time with family and friends.  I’m not going to say I have to read a book a month or exercise 5 times a week for me to be happy, but I am going to make it a goal to do all of these activities as often as I can. I hope this will make me become better at taking time for myself which is definitely something I’ve struggled with since becoming a mom!

I will of course be taking some time away from work while I recover and get to know my little baby, but I’m looking forward to coming back and hitting the ground running with everyone in a few months!  Take care of yourselves!
