VOLLEYBALL INJURIES

Athletes dedicate an incredible amount of time and effort to excel at a sport they love with goals of achieving higher levels. So, nothing is more frustrating and deflating than a volleyball injury mid-season. Even with great pre and off season preparation, they can occur at any time. With so much focus on the arms and the amount of time spent overhead, the shoulder is a common source of pain and discomfort for volleyball athletes. Rotator cuff tendonitis, bicep tendonitis, and shoulder impingement are quite common. With the jumping and frequent change of directions involved, other volleyball injuries treated by Physical therapy include torn or strained ACL’s and MCL’s, knee injuries, fractures, muscle pulls, muscle strains, ankle sprains and meniscus tears. Some volleyball-related injuries may only require ice and rest, others will require rehabilitation. Though we hope to avoid surgery with Physical Therapy, it may be required with severe injuries.
